Waking Night Care Assistant
Location:
Wirral
Hourly Rate:
Currently £12.50p/h (but a pay increase is pending)
Position Type:
Part-time, Permanent, or Bank shifts
Shift Duration: 12 or 10 hours
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Waking Night Carer to support a young man with a learning disability, complex health needs and nocturnal seizures.
He is a wheel chair user and requires mobility support and he lives at home with his parents and his dog and requires attentive care throughout the night.
The client has Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, which is characterised by multiple seizure types and associated health challenges. As his carer, you will join a small team of experienced professionals dedicated to providing person-centred care. Your role is crucial in ensuring and promoting his safety, comfort, and well-being during the night.Monitor and Maintain Safety:
Ensure his safety during nocturnal seizures.
Promote Sleep Hygiene:
Encourage and support a healthy sleep routine.
Provide Reassurance:
Create a calm, secure environment in which he feels safe and comfortable.
Main Responsibilities:
Collaborative Care:
Work as part of an experienced team, in close liaison with his family, to deliver personalized support.
Adherence to Plans:
Follow established support plans and protocols diligently.
Person-Centred Approach:
Adapt care routines to meet his specific needs.
Personal Care:
Assist with personal hygiene tasks including washing and dressing.
Medication Administration:
Manage medication schedules and administration.
Safety During Seizures:
Monitor, record seizure activity, prevent injury, provide reassurance and administer emergency medication as required.
Mobility Assistance:
Perform moving and handling tasks, including wheelchair transfers.
Physical Therapy Support:
Assist with physiotherapy exercises and massage.
Household Duties:
Maintain a clean, safe, and accessible home environment.
Record Keeping:
Complete and maintain accurate daily records.
Person Specification:
You will be calm, reassuring, caring, patient, and compassionate.
Previous experience with epilepsy and an understanding of learning disabilities would be an advantage but training will be provided.
Skills:
Good communication and organisational skills, ability to maintain accurate records.
Adaptability:
Able to respond to variations in cognitive functioning and communication.
Personality:
Good sense of humour, comfortable around dogs.
