We are currently recruiting a Project Cost Controller within our Engineering Services team in Aberdeen.


The main responsibility of the Project Cost Controller is to optimise the project revenue and margin contribution within the Engineering Services team through effective Cost and Working Capital management.


Main responsibilities

  • Liaise with operational delivery team and finance teams to provide an effective cost control service in support of key business projects.
  • Administer cost control systems and processes to track project budgets, commitments, expenditures and forecasts. Identify and highlight any coding anomalies, cost overruns, and any potential trends.
  • Implement and develop innovative project specific reports and analysis for inclusion within weekly and monthly reports and deliver information to Senior Management.
  • Provide support to the change management process and ensure Purchase / Variation orders are managed effectively and tracked.
  • Highlight in a timely manner any areas of concern for potential cost overrun or underspend, recommend actions or solutions where possible with the aim of maintaining budget position.
  • Schedule (and lead where applicable) internal project meetings and support any cost reporting for clients.
  • Promote understanding and accountability to Engineers to deliver improved cost control of individual projects and contract deliverables.
  • Support preparation of engineering invoice drafts and financial control of assigned projects
  • Work closely with finance team to deliver joined up approach to improve overall cost control.

HSEQ responsibilities

  • It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
  • The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under countryspecific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Qualifications and experience

  • Previous experience of a lead role in cost management and control in onshore and offshore projects.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Stage of Completion Revenue Recognition, and experience of managing Fixed Price and Time and Materials projects.
  • Selfstarter with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Commercial/Financial background with minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar role
  • Good communication skills
  • MS Office with strong Excel skills.
