To assist with the operational delivery and day-to-day activity of the Barrow's Business Improvement District's (Barrow BID) five-year business plan for all businesses (BID Levy paying businesses) and their customers within the BID boundary.

The main aims of Barrow BID for its second term are the 4Bs:

  • Help businesses to
    Bounce Back following the COVID pandemic


Barrow BID is a not-for-profit organisation funded by local town centre businesses who pay a levy based on the rateable value (RV) of their premises.

The rateable value is set on September 1st each year and the levy is fixed at 1.5% of the RV of premises within the BID area.

Post Title BID Project Coordinator


Contracted Hours 15-20 Hours (Part Time), exact hours negotiable. This position could fit around an existing part time role or other commitments.

Additional paid hours may be required to support specific projects as to be agreed by the BID Board.


Salary UK Real Living Wage (Living Wage Foundation 2024)

Probation Period 3 Months


Main Purpose of Job

  • To assist with the operational delivery of the BID projects, contracts and initiatives
  • To coordinate the daytoday activities of Barrow BID and its contractors
  • Provide support to the BID Board of Directors
  • Regular liaison and communication with town centre businesses

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of the project budget in line with financial control procedures to ensure that BID activities are developed within the agreed budget and monitor expenditure
  • Assist with the continued delivery of key recurring projects
  • To assist with the coordination of both operational and strategic projects to sustain the success of the Business Improvement District in line with Barrow BID's Business Plan
  • Effectively assist with all programmes of work identified within the BID Business Plan
  • Assist to coordinate marketing, promotional activity and associated events to ensure that the town centre is promoted appropriately
  • To work in partnership to develop and help implement any projects and activities relating to the town centre as agreed with the appropriate public agencies and react as appropriate to issues that may affect local businesses and the town centre
  • Take on additional tasks as directed by the BID Board

Keys Skills and Qualification Requirements

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint), databases and social media platforms
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of privileged information
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise in a dynamic work environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work as a team member with mínimal supervision
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, Board Members, local authorities and businesses with the BID area
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience assisting with project delivery
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences (including ability to write clear and concise reports)
  • An ability to prioritise and remain focused; to organise workloads with limited supervision
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a diverse set of partners
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to develop effective work plans, organise details, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Entrepreneurial in nature and with confidence to develop and push forward plans and projects
  • Ability to analyse problems and adopt an innovative approach to finding solutions
  • A knowledge of the local area (Barrow town centre and the wider Furness area)
  • The ability to deliver a firstclass standard of customer service

Other Requirements

  • To converse at ease with customers and provide information, advice and instruction in accurate spoken English
  • Working flexible hours (which may include evenings and weekends on occasions) as and when required to support specific projects
