Job Specification Emergency Control

Emergency Control Room Officer:

Job description

The LeicesterCare Emergency Control Centre provides an emergency alarm service to anyone who feels vulnerable or alone, whatever their age or needs.

Offering reassurance, support and peace of mind by providing a direct link to a caring control centre. Around the clock, every day of the year.

Alarm calls, and thereby requests for assistance, can be raised directly by the service users, by pressing a help button, or by automatic Assistive Technology sensors detecting events such as falls, doors opening and beds being unoccupied etc.

When activated the alarm call goes through to our local control room. You'll automatically identify the caller and where they live. If help is required you'll will organise assistance and contact relatives, neighbours, carers, doctor, the emergency services, etc.

Through these LeicesterCare social alarm calls your role is supporting the immediate health, wellbeing and independence of people within the city.

Without LeicesterCare people may go unsupported for a longer than necessary.

Working with the dedicated Tunstall Telecom call handling system located in our control room at Blackbird Road. This 24 7 service requires staff to work a rotating shift pattern covering morning, afternoon, evening and night shifts. Your role will specifically help cover the three shifts per day between 7 am and 10.30 pm.

Your role

As part of a team of 13 control room staff you'll create strong links to other Social Care teams, especially the assistive technology and 24 hour crisis response services.

What you will need
Your communication and problem-solving skills will be essential in this role. During a live call you will need to be able to pull together information from various sources, e.g. what the person is saying, how they are sounding, previous contacts, known situations, etc. In order to understand how you can best support the person needs. Being confident in your decision making when organising a response. As well as, empathetic and reassuring to the person in need.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance.

You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.

We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities.

In addition, you can choose from several flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains.
