East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust Occupational Health Service have the opportunity to support a Registered Nurse/Mental Health Nurse develop professionally to become a Community and Public Health Specialist Practitioner.


This is a trainee post, and the applicant would need to commit to completing a Specialist Practitioner course to achieve the appropriate qualification.

In this position you will help in preventing problems with health and well-being, promoting healthy living, and working conditions, assessing and managing workplace risks, and health screening as well as but not restricted to:
Produce personal development plan to move forward to organising own workload and provide supervision to team as required. Complete accredited Specialist Practitioner role.

Feedback to Head of Occupational Health and Senior Nurse modules undertaken to facilitate learning.

Competent to screen Pre-employment Health Questionnaires.

Competent to undertaking travel health risk assessments and administering immunisations within this remit, non-medical prescriber

To be considered for this role it is essential you are a Registered Adult or Mental Health Nurse. It is beneficial if you have Occupational Health or Practice Nurse experience but is not essential as full training will be provided


There is a full induction into this role through a period of supervised practice and developing your competence and confidence through a programme of Occupational Health specific competencies.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical

Administer workplace immunisations.

Undertake venepuncture, lung function testing, audiology, vision screening and urinalysis. Interpret and action test results.

To carry out allocated checking or Resus Trolley.

To be actively involved in development and audit of quality standards for the service.

To be actively involved in development of clinical protocols / audit.

Professional Development

Feedback to head of occupational health and senior nurse modules undertaken to facilitate learning.

Competent to screen Pre-employment Health Questionnaires.

Give advice to employees and managers in relation to infection control.


Assisting in the delivery and development of a range of occupational health services, supported by Occupational Health Business Manager, Head of Service and Consultant.

Service Delivery and Improvement

Organise own workload and provide support to physicians and senior nurses

Participate on the implementation and development of new and existing Occupational Health services with the Occupational Health team

Keep up-to-date with current best practice in Occupational Health by personal study/training and resources within the department. Ensuring information is disseminated throughout the team.

Financial and Performance Management

To be able to use software packages like word processors, outlook, access database, and also expand/develop IT skills to familiarise with the Occupational Health software package
