A bit about the role


We are looking for a Marketing and Communications Officer to join our team at Newcastle Carers - a well-established and successful charity.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a creative and driven person to deliver impactful internal and external marketing and communications to help grow our brand profile and support projects such as the 'Working for Carers' project (_operating across three carers centres_).


We are looking for someone confident and skilled in all communication methods, including digital, face-to-face and written, and a particular talent for storytelling to convey the crucial work of our charity.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the supportive Marketing and Fundraising Manager and colleagues in the Marketing and Fundraising Team to support the delivery of the communications and marketing strategy.
  • Support the development and implementation of projectspecific content plans for regular communications and marketing, including digital and printed promotional content.
  • Identify key target audiences and use multiple communication outlets to communicate, e.g. communicating with carers, employers and commissioners around project work.
  • Support the effective flows of information and knowledgesharing across carers centres and project work, and support and empower staff teams to communicate effectively with key audiences.
  • Ensure the organisation and projects have impactful, uptodate and a relevant range of digital and printed promotional materials.
  • Work with colleagues to source and manage images for use in marketing communications, including ensuring that images are stored and labelled appropriately and that the appropriate permissions have been granted for any publicly used images.
  • Executing communications and marketing in accordance with brand guidelines, using consistent brand assets, and utilising a uniform tone of voice for the brand across all channels of communication.
  • To work with beneficiaries to understand and develop compelling stories.
  • Contribute to raising the profile of awarenessraising campaigns/events such as Carers Week, Young Carers Action Day, and Carers Right Day, including creating content for these events.
  • Write and distribute press releases.

Person Specification:
Knowledge, Experience and Skills


  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills being able to convey information so that it engages interest and motivates support.
  • The ability to understand different target audiences and able to communicate clearly and effectively with different audiences.
  • Significant experience in using social media platforms and marketing channels, e.g. Mailchimp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and an understanding of best practices.
  • A high level of confidence in using IT systems, preferably with experience inusing Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.
  • Competence in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and WordPress.
  • Advanced skills in planning and attention to detail a confident selfstarter with excellent organisational skills and use of initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong organisation skills and numeracy skills, including being able to keep accurate records.
  • Expertise in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms
  • Understanding of data protection and confidentiality.
