Description
Who we're looking for

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic school leaver or university graduate looking to launch a career in Governance within a pre-eminent global asset manager.

Enthusiasm, a keen eye for to detail and a willingness to learn and progress are essential.

This is a trainee role and an integral part of our team's succession planning.

We have the expectation that, over time, you will have gained the relevant qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience to move up to a more senior position within the team, to help support growth and address natural attrition.

About Schroders
We're a global investment manager.

We help institutions, intermediaries and individuals around the world invest money to meet their goals, fulfil their ambitions, and prepare for the future.

We have around 5,000 people on six continents. And we've been around for over 200 years, but keep adapting as society and technology changes. What doesn't change is our commitment to helping our clients, and society, prosper.

The base
We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We're close to our clients, in the heart of the UK's financial centre. And we have everything we need to work flexibly.

The role
You will be helping to deliver governance advice and company secretarial services to an important part of Schroders' business. It is a client-facing position and will give you early-stage access to boardroom dynamics.

We will support you to progress and, as part of your training, you will be sponsored to complete the postgraduate level Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme, ultimately achieving 'GradCG' status.

What you'll do

Support one or more qualified company secretaries to:

  • act as a trusted advisor for the boards they support;
- provide company secretarial services to a range of Schroders investment trusts.

This includes organisation and support for at least four board meetings and associated committee meetings a year per entity and involves:

- agreeing agenda items;
- collating and disseminating board packs;
- scheduling meetings;
- following up on action points and drafting accurate minutes (initially you personally will produce skeleton minutes, building up to have greater ownership as you gain experience);
- acting as point of contact for the board members and both internal and external advisers;
- providing advice and assistance to directors and relevant Schroders colleagues;
- drafting and releasing market announcements;
- advise the investment trust boards and any associated private entities on governance matters to ensure that the arrangements are appropriate and in line with Schroders' Group principles as they apply;
- co-ordinate and organise shareholder meetings for the investment trusts in conjunction with other internal departments, including monitoring proxy votes received;
- arrange for the filing of documents with Companies House and other government bodies as necessary;
- work with fund accountants and client directors, drafting and managing the preparation of the annual and half year reports;
- attend to requests for notarisation of documents, certified copies of registers and board resolutions;
- ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and statutory requirements;
- arrange safekeeping of documents;
- maintain authorised signatories lists; and
- provide support to other members of the Asset Management Governance team as from time to time required.

The qualifications and qualities you'll need

  • Alevels as a minimum;
- competent computer skills;
- logical thinker and fast learner;
- highly organised; and

  • Commitment to qualifying as a Chartered Governance Professional (with sponsorship and support from Schroders).
