Job purpose:

Shaw Renewables Ltd are an exciting, dynamic and evolving company delivering bioenergy

solutions across the UK. We are currently searching for an experienced commercial heating

system installations within the bioenergy sector.

A successful applicant would take pride in their work, be self-motivated, punctual, ambitious and

show competency in pipefitting, mechanical fitting and demonstrate a sound understanding of

heating controls and system design.

The Company would expect a successful applicant to display a level of ability usually attained

through 3 to 5 years' experience working as a qualified and competent heating engineer.

Experience in commercial installations and interpreting technical drawings and schematics is a

core requirement. We are looking for an engineer with a proven track record of working both

independently and as part of a team to install, maintain and repair biomass and biogas heating


Main duties:

Planning and Scheduling


The renewable heating engineer is accountable for following project plans and schedules and ensuring that daily and weekly activities are completed, meeting project goals.


This includes:


  • Translating general work requirements into a prioritised work plan
  • Working with the team to find solutions.

Mechanical Installations and maintenance

  • Interpretation of P&IDs, schematics, and line drawings to install heating systems and plant equipment
  • Installation of heating pipework systems including carbon steel, stainless steel, multilayered preinsulated and copper systems
  • Installation of mechanical control and actuator equipment
  • Installation of pumps and flow control equipment
  • Installation of biomass boilers and plant equipment
  • Installation of biogas boilers and plant equipment
  • Planned maintenance of biomass boilers and plant equipment
  • Planned maintenance of biogas boilers and plant equipment
  • Respond to boiler breakdowns to resolve faults
  • Commissioning of heating systems

Quality Control
The renewable heating engineer is accountable for ensuring that their completed work meets quality standards.


This includes:


  • Carrying work to ensure that it meets industry standards and contract requirements
  • Inspecting, testing and signing off completed work
  • Completing site reports using our management software
  • Health and safety responsibilities
  • Communication with management and office team

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven ability to deliver projects on site in accordance with timescales and budget.
  • A full valid UK driver's license.
  • Proven track record/work history of commercial heating installations, servicing and breakdown repair.
  • Basic Electrical knowledge.
  • Good fault diagnostic skills.
  • NVQ Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Plumbing & Heating or equivalent.
  • Part G, unvented hot water.

Preferred, but not essential:


  • Solid fuel/biomass knowledge complete with an industry recognised qualification.
  • COCN1 or CODNCO (Core Commercial gas)
  • ICPN1 (First Fix of Commercial Pipe Work up to 75mbar and 150mbar)
  • TPCP1A (Testing and Purging Commercial Gas Installations (MOP to 40mbar)
  • CDGA1 (Commercial Direct Fired Gas Heating Appliances)
  • CIGA1 (Commercial Indirect Fired Gas Heating Appliances)
  • HETAS H005 biomass (or equivalent).
  • CIEH Manual handling certificate (or equivalent)
  • CIEH Working at heights (or equivalent)
  • CIEH Level 3 Risk assessments principles and practices (or equivalent)
  • CIEH Level 3 H & S in the workplace (or equivalent)
  • CIEH COSHH (or equivalent).
  • CIEH Asbestos awareness
