Weekend Evening Cook
Hours:
Saturday and Sunday 3pm to 7pm
Responsible
to:
Housekeeping Manager
Accountable to:
Manager or designated deputy
Basic Objectives of Post
To assist with the preparation and cooking of the evening meal and to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining room.

Main Duties
- Prepare and cook the evening meal for 6pm including alternatives and any other special requirements.
- Prepare milk jugs, butter dishes, jams, and place on tables. Prepare bread, cheese, biscuits, etc.
- At 6pm serve meal.
- Wash all cooking dishes and serving utensils and put away.
- Help Care Staff to clear and clean dining room after the meal.
- Washing up of crockery, cutlery, etc. to be done after each mealtime, using the dishwasher. Stack cups, saucers and side plates on trolley for the night staff. Put all other crockery and cutlery away. Refill Jam pots.
- Dining room to be cleaned after each meal, tables to be washed, place mats to be cleaned, floor to be swept and washed.
- All ledges and shelves to be kept clean.
- Drain down dishwasher, clean and refill. The outside of the dishwasher to be wiped down after each shift.
- The floor in the kitchen should be swept and washed after each shift.
- Before going off duty ensure that the kitchen and
all work surfaces are clean and tidy. Empty rubbish bins and launder tea towels. - To hold a suitable and current Food Hygiene Certificate.
- To record and document all necessary checks/information as required.
The above-mentioned duties give an indication of the work required but do not exclude other duties of a reasonable nature which may be requested by the manager or other designated deputies.
Health and Safety at Work
1. To be aware of and comply with safe working practices as laid down under the Health & Safety at Work Act applicable to your place of work.
2. To be aware of and comply with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSH) requirements. This will include your awareness of any specific hazards at your place of work. You will also be required to comply with manufacturer instructions regarding the storage and use of their products.
3. The wearing of appropriate protective clothing as recommended by the Home.

- GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
