Apprentice Operating Department Practitioner


Working with the University of Leicester and clinically to complete the training to become a Registered Practitioner (RODP)This is a full time time role of 37.5 hours broken down into 24 hours Clinical Placement, 7.5 hours Study time, and the remanding 6 hours to be completed in your substantive post (if applicable).

Learning all aspects of becoming a Registered Operating Department Practitioner through the Apprentice Programme at University.


The funded student ODP programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers.

The student ODP will be based and employed in the perioperative setting, at either Peterborough City Hospital or Hinchingbrooke Hospital but will experience working in alternative settings in order to gain a wide appreciation of the various health and care settings a patient can experience.


At the end of the programme the student ODP will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes, and behaviours relevant to employment as a Registered Operating Department Practitioner and will work in accordance with the Standards of Proficiency as set by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Trust's values.


During the apprenticeship allocated practice, the post holder will perform all of the elements in this job description as an apprentice under direct /or indirect supervision of a Registered Practitioner.
