    Description

Project Manager Role in Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment

The Environment Agency is seeking a skilled Project Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering the Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme.

This flagship initiative shapes how we understand and manage the water environment, supporting Defra's wider NCEA programme in building a groundbreaking evidence base on the state and value of our natural environment and ecosystems.

As a Project Manager responsible for assurance, you will drive the technical assurance of 12 monitoring networks within the programme, working alongside specialists in science, data, and operations to ensure alignment with programme goals while maintaining strong relationships across teams.

We are looking for someone with energy, initiative, and tenacity who has experience working in science programmes or large projects, is organised and detail-oriented, and can manage delivery across time, cost, and quality.

The team joins the NCEA Programme Management team within the Environment and Business Directorate, reporting to the EA NCEA Senior Project Manager. We support flexible working to provide a positive work-life balance and reduce our carbon footprint.

    • Demonstrating experience in supporting the delivery of programmes or larger projects.
    • Delivery of work with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
    • Stakeholder focus and organisational skills.
    • Managing finances and procurement and building budgets in a programme environment.
    • Experience working with PRINCE2 principles.
    • Experience working in 'virtual teams' to deliver outcomes.
    • Awareness of business change.
    • Awareness of the NCEA Programme.

The successful candidate will have an incident management objective in their development plan, supported by appropriate training. The role requires some travel and overnight stays.

Please see the Candidate/Additional Information Pack for more information.

Interviews will be held via MS Teams in late June/early July.

If you consent to being held on a reserve list, we'll hold your details for 6 months and may offer you an alternative post.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Leading the technical assurance of the 12 monitoring networks within the programme.
    • Working with specialists in science, data, and operations to ensure alignment with programme goals.
    • Maintaining strong relationships across teams.
    • Managing delivery across time, cost, and quality.

    Requirements:

    • Experience in programme or project management.
    • Organisational and stakeholder focus.
    • Financial and procurement management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively and build good relationships.

We welcome applications from diverse candidates who share our commitment to creating a positive work-life balance and reducing our carbon footprint.

Please note that this role is part of the Environment Agency's diversity and inclusion initiatives.
