Are you a dynamic and enthusiastic mental health professional who wants to support service users in their journey into and through older adult inpatient services?


If so an exciting opportunity has arisen to lead on all aspects of patient flow and experience at Woodlands Hospital for Older Adults based in Little Hulton, Salford.

There will be opportunity to be involved in service development and evaluation.

Woodlands is an older adult inpatient facility located in Little Hulton, Salford.


We accept referrals from Bolton and Salford Older Adult Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) or via GMMH Liaison Team based within A&E departments at Royal Bolton and Salford Royal Hospitals.


The unit is made up of three wards:

Delamere Ward is a16 bed female ward for older people, predominantly those who are living with dementia or a functional mental illness such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.


Hazelwood Ward is an 18 bed mixed ward for older people who are living with a functional illness, for example bipolar disorder, schizophrenia.

Holly ward is a 17 bed male ward for older people living with dementia. The ward supports patients and their carers to maximise their life potential.

To promote effective patient flow based on individual service users care pathways whilst ensuring least restrictive practice and optimizing lengths of stay and support the GMMH Trust wide goal to reduce out of area placements.


To promote and facilitate timely admissions and discharges within Woodlands unit through safe, timely and effective bed management as an integral part of the CPA process.

To operate as a member of Inpatient Multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical expertise to facilitate safe discharge from the inpatient service.

To liaise closely and effectively with key staff in other agencies MHLS, CMHT's, HBTT & OA Services


To act as a resource to provide education, advice and support relating to all aspects of admissions and discharge planning and provide supervision and training as required to junior members and students of the Woodlands Unit.

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has headquarters in Prestwich.

It provides mental health services in Bolton, Salford and Trafford, inpatient alcohol and drug recovery services in Prestwich as well as community services in Salford, Trafford, Cumbria, Wigan and Leigh, Blackburn with Darwen and Central Lancashire.
