The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies intends to appoint a Departmental Lecturer (DL) in Egyptology.

This is a one-year position from 1st September 2023, to cover the teaching and certain other duties of a permanent post-holder during a period of sabbatical leave.

(You must be able to start at the latest on 1st September 2023.)

You will have a relevant postgraduate doctorate in Egyptology, and hold, or be close to completing, a relevant doctorate.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to teach texts in Egyptian history from the early first millennium to Late Antiquity, as well as broad topics including material culture, and a range of cultural, archaeological, philological and historical topics.

You will also have sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge of the major phases of Egyptian language (specifically Demotic, Graeco-Roman hieroglyphs and Coptic) to develop course materials and undertake relevant research.

You must demonstrate an ability and willingness to carry out administrative roles in an academic setting, possessing excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

This position is based in central Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position until
