Acute In-patient Mental Health Services - Adult working Age

Full time Salary band 3 3 posts 37.5 hours


We are looking for three kind, motivated and physically fit individuals to join the Activity Team at The Caludon Centre, Coventry.


The Caludon Centre is a specialist inpatient mental health unit, providing assessment and treatment to adults experiencing an acute or crisis episode of mental ill health.

Engaging patients in various activities is an important aspect of their treatment and recovery.

The Activities Co-ordinator role is typically provided Monday to Friday between 8:30 - 5.


It is essential to have an interest in delivering a range of social and recreational activities, including well being activities, such as cooking, exercise, gardening, music based activities, creative activities, games and conversational groups.

To provide and coordinate a range of activities for patients on and off the wards, without direct supervision.

  • To plan with patients, provide and engage patients in a diverse program of activities, each week.
  • To provide activities on a group basis
  • To provide activities on and off ward, accessing the local community
  • To ensure a core range of activities are offered, available and delivered
  • To be responsive to patient interests and changing needs
  • To undertake required record keeping on our IT systems
The acute wards can be rewarding and challenging environments, due to our patient's clinical needs. Previous experience of working with people who have care or educational needs is advantageous (i.e. trauma, mental ill health, neuro-diversity).

We are a supportive team, and there is opportunity for training, learning and regular supervision.

  • To act always in such a way as to promote and safeguard the well being and interests of patients and staff.
  • Maintain an atmosphere conductive to recovery and maintain a friendly professional relationship with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues alike.
  • Plan and organise activity resources and spaces within safe working practices and local procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the clinical team and report directly to their supervisor (Ward Occupational Therapist).
  • Regularly liaise with patients and colleagues to discuss, plan and implement activities appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Provide a diverse program of activities in line with core requirements to a group of patients and also on an individual basis.
