Position:
Receptionist - Working a fixed scheduled 4 days a week and if needed, will need to able to work additional hours to cover sickness and holidays on these days


Reports to:
Reception Manager


Job summary

  • Deal with patient requests and queries over the phone and on reception desk
  • Liaise with NHS and other organisations as required
  • Process prescription requests and deal with associated queries

Principal duties

1 Reception


1.1 To assist patients at reception, making appointments or dealing with queries, ensuring all information is given in an accurate and helpful manner.

1.2 To process requests for prescriptions as appropriate.

1.3 To liaise with patients and other NHS services, as required.


1.4 To ensure that the evening/morning reception staff are made aware of any outstanding issues from the morning /evening surgeries, where applicable.

1.5 To process requests for repeat prescriptions in accordance with the practice protocol

1.6 To assist in closing and securing the premises at the end of evening surgery when required.


2 Telephone Duties
2.1 To deal with requests for appointments made over the telephone

2.2 To answer queries from patients, other NHS bodies and external organisations


3 Prescriptions
3.1 To process requests for prescriptions in accordance with practice protocol

3.2 To ensure all necessary tests and reviews have been undertaken prior to issuing prescriptions

3.3 To complete forms and write letters to patients requesting they have tests or to attend for review appointments.

3.4 To put requests for prescription items to GPs via Daybook in accordance with the practice protocol

3.5 To deal with all telephone queries from pharmacies and patients relating to prescription requests


4 General Duties
4.1 To sort the trays sent out by the GPs and allocate the items to the appropriate person, in tray or forward to the appropriate Hospital or other provider

4.2 To send faxes and follow up to confirm receipt as appropriate

4.3 To monitor the fax machine and distribute incoming faxes as appropriate

4.4 Process recalls and other administrative work as appropriate


4.5 It is not envisaged that the duties of this post will be confined to the tasks described and on occasion the post holder may be required to carry out additional task within the practice.


5 Responsibilities
5.1 To be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures within the practice.

Salary:
£9.50-£10.32 per hour

Experience:
