Thisis role is a combined assistant practitioner post for both the dietetics and speech and language therapy service, based in adult mental health inpatients.

The role is based at the Redwoods Centre although there is an expectation to contribute to service delivery when required across MPFT.

We are looking for someone experienced/interested in working with patients with nutrition, hydration, swallowing and communication needs. Any experience working in a mental health setting is an advantage.


Providing clinical support to a defined population of dietetic and speech and language patients under the guidance of a registered dietitian/ Speech and Language therapist in a variety of settings and specialities.


Managing a caseload of reviews and discharging from the service, when appropriate, under the guidance of a registered clinician in a variety of settings and specialities.

Working collaboratively with other services to provide care for service-users utilising evidenced based interventions. Working in partnership with agencies external to the Trust supporting service-users' access to services.


JOB PURPOSE


Following initial assessments by a registered clinician the post holder is able to independently continue and adapt a treatment programme for clients, review and progress agreed treatments and discharge clients when clinically stable or treatment goals are achieved, with support from the registered dietitians.

There will also be the need to deliver pre-written presentations/training sessions to groups of staff and service users.

The post holder will work across all elements of the service, including Nutrition Support, weight management, diabetes, swallowing needs, communication needs and home enteral feeding.

This post includes daily clinical work with the need to adapt to unpredictable changes and demands in the service.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To adhere to the Care Certificate standards and all other relevant guidance from the Trust. To be aware of the Health and Care Professions Council's (HCPC) codes of conduct.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships both within the Trust and with external organisations in order to meet service requirements and support and demonstrate the Trust's equality values.
  • To support registered dietitians and speech & language therapists to assess patients. To contribute to the development and implementation of programmes of treatment/ care/support for individuals, families and carers under the guidance of a registered clinician.
