Description

The Architect takes business problems and opportunities then designs a technology solution that enables the business to deliver a desired outcome.

The Architect provides technical expertise in the organisation's bid management process and strategic development.

In addition, an Architect manages and maintains the framework that technology sits within. Setting the principles, standards and governance that all technology goes through in the organisation.


Key Accountabilities:

Design of architecture solutions, maintaining focus on principles, standards and technology risk management.

Horizon scanning of technologies and other national / political influences in order to recommend strategies and approaches to your business area across all core architecture domains (business, apps, data, technology).

Develop long-term trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders through building a strong knowledge of the business area.

Contribute to the principles, methods, processes and standards of architecture design and modelling. Ensuring adherence to governance.

Provide high-quality content and thought leadership to business areas through leading exploratory meetings, assessments and technical workshops.

Promote the re-use of existing capabilities and commercial off-the-shelf products.

Provide technical oversight and support to in-flight projects, maintaining senior-level client relationships as a trusted advisor.

Participate in internal cross-project design reviews bringing objectivity and best practice recommendations into discussions.

Provide leadership and mentoring for junior colleagues and aspiring architects.

Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.


ESSENTIAL

Essential criteria are those that are critical for the satisfactory performance of the role. It is expected that all applicants meet the essential criteria to be eligible for appointment


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Significant experience of working as an IT technical or solutions architect, or relevant IT degree.
  • ITIL, PRINCE 2, TOGAF, IT4IT certification or equivalent professional qualification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:


Significant experience of IT architecture and solution design skills and experience, with an understanding of Business, Application, Data and Technology architecture.

A broad understanding of the following technologies, or in-depth technical knowledge ofone or more of them:


  • Business transformation experience provisioning of IT services as part of a major office relocation.
  • Desktop and mobile device (Smartphones/Tablets) provisioning and management
  • Networks including OSI Layer 3/4 technologies, Unified communications (messaging, presence, voice including. IP telephony, mobility, audio, web & video, encrypted communications, IPsec VPN, WAN (MPLS/SD-WAN) and LAN (Cisco)
  • Infrastructure technologies including Storage (SAN/NAS/Cloud), Citrix/Thin client, Solaris/Linux technologies, Virtualization (VMware including NSX, OVM, Hyper-V); Backup & Restore/Archiving, both on premise and in the Cloud; Disaster Recovery/BusinessContinuity
  • System management and monitoring, in particular, SolarWinds or Sentinel.
  • Public and private cloud infrastructure including design, implementation, governance and security considerations.
  • Database including Microsoft SQL Server 2012+, Oracle 12g+, Data warehousing (SQL and XML)
  • Microsoft Windows products and technologies: Windows 10, Server 2016+, Active Directory, AAD, Office 2016+, Exchange 2016+, SCCM 2016+, App-V, MDM (Intune, MDM for Office 365)
  • Printing/scanning services including provisions of high volume solutions
  • Technical architecture and design experience within a complex, multisite IT environment
  • Experience of working with/ commissioning work from IT suppliers and consultancies.
  • Effective communication of technical risks, issues and constraints to nonspecialists, and coaching of project and service delivery teams assisting the IT function in acquiring knowledge and new skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Travel as needed to multiple locations across Surrey and Sussex, with occasional regional and wider UK


Ability to attend premises as required by line management or the Senior Responsible Officer aligned to a programme of work.
