Description

Purpose:


  • Prepare and complete Personal, Trust, and Estate Return forms;
  • Provide advice and assistance to clients and trustees regarding Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax matters; and
  • Support other members of the Tax Team as needed.

Core Duties:


  • Offer proactive guidance on minimizing tax liabilities for both assigned clients and as needed;
  • Ensure accurate tax returns are prepared and submitted to HMRC within deadlines, including those for individuals, trusts, estates, and charities;
  • Submit tax returns within time limits;
  • Prepare and verify schedules of dividends;
  • Complete Capital Gains Tax calculations;
  • Maintain and update Capital Gains Tax records and other relevant records;
  • Agree on accurate tax liabilities with HMRC within time limits;
  • Inform clients of their tax payment and repayment status and verify that such payments or repayments are made/received as necessary;
  • Uphold the profitability of tax compliance work by recording time spent on clients accurately and ensuring work is carried out efficiently without time wastage;
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients;
  • Respond promptly to clients', HMRC, and other agents' inquiries and correspondence;
  • Regularly review clients to ensure files, records, and other matters, including feeing tax matters, are current;
  • Annually assess clients' affairs against a checklist to consider potential tax mitigation and provide proactive tax advice on minimizing liabilities;
  • Report to the Head of Tax Services promptly when important issues arise;
  • Coordinate with HMRC on various tax matters;
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of relevant tax legislation and rules; and
  • Perform administrative duties within the Tax Department.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, such as at HMRC, a chartered accounting firm, or a legal firm;
  • Solid background in Personal Tax, UK Income Tax, and Capital Gains Tax knowledge;
  • ATT qualification preferred but not essential; and
  • Familiarity with tax computerized systems, including CCH, Word, and Excel.

£26,000.00-£32,000.00 per year

  • Edinburgh: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
