- The departmentThe Cashiers team, led by the Head Legal Cashier, works closely with the feeearning departments to ensure that all client and matter transactions are completed in a timely and efficient manner. This role is predominantly responsible for ensuring that a range of disbursements are posted onto the system in a timely manner and then paid at the appropriate time.
Training across the different roles within Cashiers will be given to ensure that sufficient cover can be provided across the team.
This is an ideal role therefore for someone who wants to learn all aspects of Cashiering and progress within the department.
The team liaises with the Billing, Credit Control and the Finance Management teams, so it is crucial to ensure open lines of communications and workflows are maintained across the different parts of the Finance team and client service teams within the Firm as appropriate.
Lewis Silkin has a commitment to developing its staff, with study support available for those who wish to undertake professional exams.
- ResponsibilitiesFurther to applicable training, key responsibilities will include most aspects of the work undertaken by the Cashier team, including the following:
- Post Counsel and Expert Fees onto through Chrome River (The firms workflow invoice processing platform).
- Pay the Counsel and Experts fees through the firm's internet banking platform.
- Check, collate and load foreign supplier invoices to Corpay (a third party, which pays foreign disbursements on our behalf).
- Pay foreign supplier invoices through Corpay.
- Post additional foreign supplier invoices onto Elite 3e (the firm's practice management system).
- Posting the Firm's credit card transactions for disbursements and office expenses.
- Post chargeable disbursements including couriers, Companies House, Land registry, Searchflow, HMCTS (court fees) and taxi fares onto Elite 3e.
- Review and posting of Direct debits in relation to our main office account.
- Assistance in reconciliation processes covering nominal ledgers and areas such as petty cash/bank reconciliations.
- Assistance in monitoring and clearing residual client balances.
- Running client interest calculations and posting the appropriate entries.
- Monitor the Cashiers inbox and respond to fee earner queries, which includes communication with PA's and Fee earners within the firm.
- Receipt and banking of Office and Client account cheques received.
- Dealing with any Cashier related post.
- Work with the firms Belfast, Dublin and Hong Kong offices as appropriate; and
- Adhoc duties assisting the head cashier and other team members with tasks as and when required for cover or through the growth and development of the Firm.
Key
requirements
- Preferably a knowledge and experience of windowsbased packages such as Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Competent using Excel.
- Excellent numeracy skills and ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written communications.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Experience in a Cashier's, Finance or Legal environment desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of Elite 3E desirable but not essential.
