Description

The post holder will be expected to be competent in initial management of common Plastic Surgery emergencies including major burns (adult and paediatric) and operative management of basic hand trauma including tendon and nerve repairs.


It is important that they know well the patients that are under the care of the subspecialty and helps with the running of the Department.

Involvement in teaching, research and Audit.

  • QMC is where our Emergency Department (A&E), Major Trauma Centre and the Nottingham Children's Hospital are based. QMC is also home to the University of Nottingham's School of Nursing and Medical School
  • Nottingham City Hospital is our planned care site, where our cancer centre, heart centre and stroke services are based
  • Ropewalk House is where we provide a range of outpatient services, including hearing services
We have 90 wards and around 1,700 beds.

The department provides opportunity for exposure in a wide range of plastic and reconstructive surgery. This is the regional unit for Burns, Sarcoma, and Cleft lip and Palate care.

The post will also include the opportunity to gain experience in breast reconstruction and oncoplastic breast surgery, hand surgery and skin cancer surgery.

There are also opportunities for involvement working alongside other specialities involving major trauma and lower limb reconstruction, Head and Neck, Chest Wall and Gynaecological reconstruction.

The post holder will be part of a 1 in 9 or 10 registrar on call rota.
