Governments around the world, industry participants and their investors and financiers and society in general are struggling to come to terms with climate change and its impact on current business models and technologies.

We were one of the first law firms to have a dedicated energy team and one that has worked on flagship projects such as privatisations and with some of the biggest names, including international and national oil companies, oilfield services companies, electricity and gas utilities and system operators, conventional and renewables power generators, regulatory authorities, project financiers and governments both in the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities
- The primary focus of the role will be energy projects in particular power projects however you will also expand your experience across the wider energy and infrastructure sectors and be expected to assist where required including providing regulatory advice
- You will support Partners and other associates and be expected to work autonomously on certain matters
- You will be the first point of contact for clients
- Where appropriate, you will have responsibility for managing and supervising the more junior members of the team
- You will contribute to the team's business development activities and proactively engage with clients in a social setting
- As part of your continued development, you will also prepare and deliver training (internal and for clients), write articles and seminar presentations
Experience Skills & Knowledge
Technical Skills (Essential)
- You will have trained with a recognised legal firm or inhouse team and will have exposure to transactional matters
- A strong legal background
- Ability to work with a degree of independence
- Exceptional communication skills
- Exceptional drafting skills
- Exceptional legal research ability
Technical Skills (Desirable)
- Project, corporate, finance or regulatory experience in the energy sector
- Experience of working with international energy clients
- Experience of preparing and participating in pitches to clients
- Experience of working in client organisations either as part of an inhouse team or through secondments
Personal Skills / Attributes
- Proactive approach with a 'can do' attitude and genuine enthusiasm for the energy industry
- Excellent academic results, including at least a 2:1 degree or equivalent from a top University
- Experience of complex commercial contracts, transactions and regulatory issues
- The ability to take responsibility to manage your own workload, with attention to detail
- Committed to developing your own career
- Excellent team and client management skills
- Entrepreneurial vision and a desire to get involved with business development
- A willingness to travel
- Fluency in a second language (specifically Mandarin) would be an advantage
