Description
Churchill College seeks to recruit an Outreach Officer to strengthen its outstanding undergraduate Admissions team.

The Outreach Officer has three primary duties, under the management of the Lead Admissions Tutor:

  • Build and maintain the College's links with schools and colleges with a view to reaching out to and recruiting high-quality undergraduate applicants, especially from under-represented groups.
  • Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of outreach and recruitment resources and activities, both inperson and online.
  • Assist in the administration of the annual undergraduate admissions process.

This position would suit an educationally minded and outgoing person, qualified with at least an undergraduate degree and with excellent communication, administrative, and IT skills.

We seek a colleague who has compelling experience of academic outreach in higher education, as a practitioner or, for example, a school or college teacher or third sector worker who has been successful in the field.

This post would be ideal for someone who is established in the territory and is seeking to step up to a more substantial role, with significant creative autonomy and the support of an extensive and exceptional team which believes essentially that widening participation and the highest academic standards go hand-in-hand.

An understanding of university admissions would help, optimally in Cambridge - though perspectives from other universities can be valuable too.

Possession of a current UK driving licence is essential.

This role involves a great variety of interactions with others.

Close liaison with academic and non-academic colleagues in Churchill and Cambridge is required, as well as very good communication with schools and colleges, and with individual would-be applicants and their supporters.

Churchill is fortunate to have many substantial partnership projects, including with Welsh Government for example, which makes this role even more exciting.

The post-holder must be willing to travel extensively and will likely have to stay away from Cambridge on several nights each year.

Occasionally, they may be required to stay in College overnight and/or act as designated safeguarding lead for residential outreach events.

At different points in the year, a good deal of routine administration is necessary.

This is a full-time post working 37.5 hours per week on average. Some evening and weekend work is essential.

There are peaks and troughs in workload across the year, with times when additional hours will need to be worked and times where fewer hours will need to be worked.
