Description

Band 6 Sister pre-Op Assessment
To provide effective pre-operative assessment for a variety of elective surgery

To develop, and practice, skills in history-taking and physical examination with specific attention to the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and potential airway difficulties

Ordering of investigations in order to determine suitability for anesthetic

Identify potential problems and act accordingly

Closely liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide effective and coordinated quality of care for patients prior to surgery

Support Band 7 senior nurses and the Matron in the supervision and professional development of all staff.

Act as a role model/mentor and assessor to both pre and post-registration learners and junior staff.

Provide teaching and actively promote a learning environment for all staff
