We are currently recruiting a
Regulatory Policy Advisor for a Permanent contract.


Purpose of the job
This role is to support the IFoA's regulatory function by providing advice on IFoA regulatory policy matters.


Reporting to the Senior Review Actuary and working closely with the wider Regulatory Policy Team, the Regulatory Board and colleagues from across the IFoA, the role will involve supporting the work on horizon scanning and information gathering about public interest issues and risks relating to actuaries, in order to inform the IFoA's regulatory role.

This will include research and engagement with various stakeholders (internal and external) to understand existing and potential issues and presenting on them to Boards and Committees.

It will also involve supporting the IFoA's thematic review programme.


Principal Activities

  • To contribute to the Regulatory Board's horizonscanning work in relation to emerging regulatory and public interest risks, including maintenance of the Horizon Scanning Register and suggesting topics for discussion by the Regulatory Board
  • To provide input to the work of the Actuarial Monitoring Scheme (AMS) team, including research into topics and benchmarking, developing proposals and recommendations, engagement with Members and other stakeholders (internal and external) and engagement with Financial Reporting Council as the IFoA's oversight body
  • To provide input from a regulatory policy perspective into IFoA consultation responses, where appropriate
  • To develop training and educational materials and present on new initiatives or issues, as required
  • To engage with external stakeholders and build relationships with representatives at the right level

Essential skills, knowledge and experience

  • Good knowledge of financial services, particularly insurance and pensions
  • Sound understanding of the concept of public interest
  • Experience of stakeholder management and building positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to inspire confidence in others and to motivate, influence and persuade
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Strong communicator, both written and spoken
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Selfstarter able to work on own initiative and to tight deadlines
  • Creative thinker and problem solver.

£37,600.00-£39,500.00 per year
