Job summary:


Forest Services (FS) is the part of Forestry Commission England responsible for expanding, protecting, improving and connecting England's trees, woodlands and forests.

Its component teams - Strategy and Transformation, Policy and Advice, National Grants and Regulations, Plant Health Forestry and Area Delivery teams - work together to provide the sector with the support it needs to achieve this.

These roles both sit within Forest Services.

One role will report into the Director's Office of Forest Services, and will work within the Strategy and Transformation team, responsible for the development and continuous improvement of Forest Services.

The other will report into The Policy and Advice Team of Forest Services, responsible for providing technical advice and support to the Forestry Commission, Defra and the wider forestry sector.


Job description:


There are two Support Officer vacancies: one
Strategy and Transformation Support Officer and one
Policy and Advice Team Support Officer.


We are seeking dynamic individuals to ensure both teams have high quality support, helping to enable each team to deliver their individual programme ambitions.

The roles are varied and can be fast paced.

The roles require individuals who are diligent and have an aptitude for problem-solving and an ability to prioritise competing demands to provide an excellent support function.


You will:

  • Provide administrative support for the Head of Strategy and Transformation or the Head of Policy and Advice including some project support
  • Coordinating meetings, workshops and events: booking venues and catering, liaising with event leads
  • Responding to enquiries and requests received and taking an active approach in finding an outcome to queries
  • Provide wider project support for shortterm projects
  • Coordinating administrative tasks
  • Providing meeting support including distributing meeting agendas, collating papers, taking minutes and updating action logs
  • Providing cover for and support to the team including diary management and logístical administrative support.

ESSENTIAL

  • Experience of managing competing demands, prioritising and managing a varied workload.
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage self, working on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail and a proactive approach to problemsolving.
  • Good interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Competent IT user with strong experience of MS Office including MS Teams and SharePoint

DESIRABLE

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs/Standard Grades or equivalent (A-C Passes) including English & Maths or English Language is required and/or significant experience working in an administrative post.
