About the Role
Nottingham City Council is committed to addressing homelessness and housing challenges within the city.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Suitability Officer to join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful discharge of housing duties to clients, in accordance with relevant legislation and best practices.


As a Suitability Officer, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive suitability assessments to facilitate the rehousing of homeless individuals and families.

Your work will be guided by the Localism Act, Suitability Order 2012, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996 Parts VII, and other relevant legislation and case law.


About You

  • Comprehensive and up to date working knowledge of housing legislation in both the public and private sector
  • Comprehensive and up to date working knowledge of Homelessness and associated legislation and an ability to advise on the discharge of duties owed to citizens for the Authority
  • Effectively manage a complex workload under pressure meeting specified targets and deadlines whilst demonstrating attention to detail, prioritisation and selforganisation skills
  • The ability to visit and inspect properties to identify issues relating to hazards, safety standards and disrepair; making recommendations of remedial action to be taken
  • Ability to write complex letters and produce reports
  • A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
  • The role requires you to participate in the on call rota.
