Reporting to:
Head of Science


Main purpose

The Head Science Technician will:

  • Fulfil the professional responsibilities of a Head Science Technician, as set out in the school
  • Meet the expectations set out by the Head of Science and support the students in class
  • Work in accordance with the SEND code of practice

Duties and responsibilities
Set up Science Laboratory equipment to designated Spec.
Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupil
Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils.
Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
Health, safety and discipline
Promote the safety and wellbeing of pupils
Be vigilant in maintaining health and safety within the classroom and school environment.
Professional development
Take part in further training and development in order to improve
Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and professional development of others
Communication
Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals
Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues
Personal and professional conduct

Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality.

Deploy resources delegated to them
Other areas of responsibility
Fulfil all duties in relationship to area of responsibility

Person specification

Qualifications and experience:


  • Degree in Science
  • Passion and interest to work within education
  • Experience of working as a Science Technician in a school

Skills and knowledge:


  • A good understanding of general science
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils
  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children
  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning

Personal qualities:


  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for the pupil and promoting the ethos and values of the school
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality
  • Ability to inspire others within your department
