Engineering Manager - FMCG - Sittingbourne - Up to £90,000

Our customer is a global manufacturer and a leader in their field.

As Engineering Manager, you will direct, coordinate and develop all engineering and maintenance aspects of a business, responsible for the mechanical, electrical and instruments uptime of the organisation's machines.

Contribute to the development of the personneland production performance in compliance with overall corporate objectives, strategies and plans.

Engineering Manager - Requirements

  • Have a recognised Engineering qualification (Engineering management experience and a time served Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3. HND or University Degree would be an advantage.)
  • Experienced in using best practice standards, practices and processes in precision maintenance
  • Understands and able to use methods and tools like failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), Ishikawa diagrams, process mapping, current reality tree (CRT), 5 Whys and Pareto as appropriate for problem solving and root cause analysis
  • Highly motivated with ability to work creatively and analytically in a problemsolving and results oriented environment. Proven skills in using Microsoft Office, Project and Visio to support such analysis
  • Fluent in English both written and oral
  • Maintenance experience in heavy industrial process manufacturing environment. Paper mill maintenance experience advantageous
  • Experience with using "Lean" methodologies

Engineering Manager - Responsibilities

  • Support & lead the Area Engineers to coordinate a uniform, holistic approach to ensure delivery of an efficient, effective engineering service. Develop & continuously improve best practice maintenance strategies and standards to deliver valueadded performanceacross assets.
  • Work as a key member of the Engineering dept. Management team on strategies to improve overall engineering service and asset performance.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a team of multiskilled shift craft, to maximise performance e.g. improve mean time to recover & unplanned downtime (MTTR & UDTT)
  • Delivery of excellent engineering service and asset performance
  • Provide support, direction and leadership to the Area Engineers
  • Provide support, direction and leadership to the Shift Craft
  • Liaise and ensure good, effective communication with all engineering teams/personnel and across operations
  • Coordinate resource based on business priority/ risk
  • Identify, develop & implement best engineering practices
  • Support agreed strategies & goals (e.g. criticality analysis process)
  • Target agreed KPI's across assets
  • Manage/input to costs within the operational and Site General Maintenance budgets and agreed targets
  • Take responsibility for critical or complex problems across site, utilising events to develop the knowledge and experience of the team by involvement.
  • Ensure team members are clear on any objectives and level of performance through ongoing feedback at onetoone meetings & formal PDR reviews to the required standard.
  • Conduct regular reviews vs agreed roles and responsibilities to ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their duties. Training/ development to be provided as required.
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times and team compliance with all company safety procedures and legislation. Report any defects, short comings including any incidents and injuries immediately. Assist with company investigations,risk assessments, SSOW (Safe Systems of Work) and developing procedures as required.
  • Ensure the safety of all work colleagues, contractors, visitors and where relevant, members of the public by minimising any health and safety risks
  • Ensure that all engineering activities are conducted in accordance with statutory and legal requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and that the management of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations are being enforced
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure all staff are engaged in continuous and ongoing housekeeping that illustrates a healthy attitude to the workplace and all areas are maintained at a high level of general housekeeping
  • Manage risk assessment process vs Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
  • Comply with the site's Environmental Management System (EMS), including environmental procedures and work instructions, to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements to which the company subscribes
  • Report potential hazards to the environment, and environmental incidents, and assist with company investigations as required. Assist with risk assessments and the development of the EMS
  • Ensure all employees and / or subcontractors under direct control follow the requirements of EMS
  • Ensure all raw materials are used
