Description
We are currently recruiting for a
Legal Assistant for our client based in the Belfast area. This role is on a 3 year fixed term basis.


The role:
The successful applicant will join the Pensions Development Team.

This team maintain and support the pensions administration software, implements new projects, supports Scheme employers in their administration of the pension scheme and provides technical pensions expertise.

Reporting to the clients in-house Lawyer, the postholder will be responsible for assisting the in-house Lawyer in ensuring that the administration of the LGPS is compliant with all relevant legislation.


Duties will include:
- understanding and interpreting LGPS (NI) regulations and providing advice (internally and externally) on same;
- providing guidance on legal (including data protection) and contractual matters;
- reviewing procedures, policies, forms and pension scheme literature to ensure they are compliant with/reflect relevant legislation;
- preparing documentation and completing any research required for legal proceedings;
- assisting with the preparation of reports for consideration by the clients Management Committee;
- provide administration support to the in-house Lawyer


In order to meet the full requirements of the post, applicants must hold the qualifications specified; have experience in and/or be able to demonstrate competence in the following areas:


Essential:


  • Administration and organisational skills
  • A methodical and organised approach to tasks and an ability to prioritise, pay attention to detail, work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines and with mínimal supervision.
  • The ability to interpret and clearly explain the information above in a way that is appropriate to audience needs.
  • Excellent numeracy skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable the post holder to meet full requirements of the post.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.

Diserable:


  • Member of a recognised professional legal body.
  • Pensions law experience or knowledge/experience in other relevant legal areas, in particular, experience of preparing bundles for hearings before courts or tribunals.
  • Experience of report writing

Benefits:

35 hours per week; 22 days annual leave (increasing to 23 days from 1 April); 12 statutory days (13 days in ; flexi available allowing staff to build up hours and take one flexi-day in a four-week period (up to a max of 13 days per calendar year); auto enrolment in the Local Government Pension Scheme NI (a defined benefit career average revalued earnings (CARE) scheme - as the employer currently contributes 19.5% and members pay between 5.5% and 10.5% depending on salary).
