Base Location:
Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

Salary:
£44,100 - £66,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

About the Role:

The Software Asset Management Lead will be responsible for the overall delivery of all software licence requests and renewals.

This will include agreeing the annual software budget and forecast with the IT Commercial Director, Group CIO, and Finance Director, managing all costs and processes associated with that annual budget, identification of possible savings, advanced signalling of potential overspend, and negotiating costs and service provision with 3rd parties.


Key to the role is to manage the operational aspects of the Software Asset Management Request and Renewals team, ensuring risk, legal, security and other compliance requirements are met, and ensuring the Software Asset Management processes integrate with all relevant IT and business processes such that it adds value to those processes and their outcomes.


Key Accountabilities
Software Asset Management Strategy

  • Codesign, operate and drive forward the SSE IT Software Asset Management strategy, participating in its development with the overall goal to ensure consistent and costeffective management of Software Asset Lifecycles.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Software Asset Management to define the team's objectives and key results.
Financial Management

  • Track and manage the costs of all software assets throughout their operating life.
  • Validate software budgeting and forecasting requirements for core software and maintain a future cost model for those assets.
  • Understand and participate in the accountability and responsibility matrix within the SSE organisation.
  • Be responsible for managing costs associated with Software Asset Management activities.
Process Accountability

  • Be fully accountable and responsible for all aspects associated with the Software Asset Management Requests and Renewals process.
  • Become established as a central point of contact, coordination, escalation, guidance and support for all aspects of the process, regardless of the technology or organisational structure involved.
  • Define, document, maintain and change manage the process in line with industry best practice.
  • Identify and propose Critical Success Factors (CSFs), Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets to monitor and report on the performance of the process, and once accepted, to implement and regularly review the metrics in order to maintain a clear view of the current position and to demonstrate the ongoing value delivered by the process.
  • Drive the coordination with all providers to the organisation of Software Asset Management services, both internal and external, to ensure the availability and accuracy of all associated services required for the successful delivery of the key accountabilities.
Relationship Management

  • Implement regular reviews of the process with key stakeholders and practitioners, ensuring that outcomes and actions are documented and that opportunities for improvement are identified and actioned.
  • Identify 'at risk' aspects of the process that may be operated by other parties within the organisation and ensure that appropriate controls are in place.
Process Governance, Risk, and Compliance

  • Contribute to the software asset Risk register and ensure that all associated Risks are identified, assessed, mitigated, and managed.
  • Perform regular assessment of potential software risk exposure, prioritise initiatives, and propose optimal courses of action to address all software related exposure.
  • Identify any corporate, statutory and/or regulatory requirements associated with the process and demonstrate that these are complied with at all times.
  • Produce management information dashboards to an agreed frequency.

What do I need?:

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • An understanding of all aspects of the Software Asset Management life cycle from specification of licensing requirements to decommissioning, with a relevant practitioner qualification; degree level education desired.
  • Good knowledge of financial management, budgeting and purchasing processes.
