Description

Stores and Distribution Receive pharmacy orders, checking goods and paperwork received from wholesalers / manufacturers and signing delivery notes for their receipt.

Unpacking, checking and storing items in the correct allocated locations within the stores and dispensary areas.

Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all transactions in order to provide a full audit trail of all orders and requisitions, also maintaining accurate stock levels.

Scan items on receipt for FMD compliance.

Monitor orders for to-follows and outstanding orders. Communicate with Pharmacy staff regarding to-follow and supply issues. Contact suppliers by telephone to report delivery discrepancies. Support the Procurement officer in administrative duties including invoicing.

Participate frequently throughout the day, in the pharmacy ward delivery and collection service. Participate in the top-up and distribution of pharmaceutical products to wards and departments throughout the Trust.

Being responsible for the ward drug cupboard and trolley keys whilst carrying out duties on the ward ensuring security at all times.

Assemble orders against approved ward stock lists, stock levels and stock requisitions, ensuring stock rotation, suitability for use, packaging and labelling are correct.

Ordering replacement stock where necessary. Providing a technical check of assembled ward stock. Transporting stock by lifting boxes of 10-14Kg, pushing trolleys and carrying pharmaceutical products. Participate in daily stock checks of the emergency drug cupboard.

Participate in daily temperature monitoring.

Taking action to ensure outstanding orders to wards or patients are followed up and supply made within a suitable time frame, referring to a senior person where long term delays are identified and getting advice on appropriate action to be taken.

Assessing surplus medicines returned from clinical areas on a daily basis against defined criteria and where suitable, return into stock for re-use.

Repacking and over-labelling medicines according to agreed procedures.


Dispensary Services Accurately dispensing a variety of pharmaceutical products by packaging and labelling items, issuing on the pharmacy computer system and completing relevant computer and written records following current department Standard Operating Procedures.

Participating in all aspects of dispensary cover according to the needs of the service. Continuing to show competency in dispensing accurately and safely. To answer telephones promptly and politely where appropriate throughout the working day, dealing with queries and responding promptly.

Relaying complete and accurate information recognising self-limitations and referring to appropriate person. Standing for long periods of time on a daily basis whilst working in the Pharmacy department. Receiving prescriptions from staff and patients at the Pharmacy hatch. Processing payments for prescription charges via cash or card.

Establishing where there is exemption from prescription charges and ensuring the appropriate evidence is produced and declarations completed.

Management of Pharmaceutical waste Participate in a system for the safe disposal of pharmaceutical waste and recycling of inpatient medication including harmful substances and cytotoxic drugs.

Updating computer records with medication disposal and recycling figures. Prepacking and Over-labelling Participate in the system for pre-packing and over-labelling medicines.

Producing worksheets via the computer and accurately recording batch numbers and expiry dates. Order stock in preparation for batch production of pre-packed and over-labelled medicines. Controlled drugs To comply at all times with departmental standard operating procedures for controlled drugs. Deliver controlled drugs to wards and departments throughout the Trust and obtain signatures.

Receive controlled drugs from pharmaceutical wholesalers and obtain pharmacist signatures. To ensure ward staff comply with the SOPs for receipt of controlled drugs.
