We are a large, innovative GP Practice, based in Worthing, West Sussex. We are looking to recruit a Medical Receptionist to join our friendly, hardworking Reception team, working over 3 sites.

We are a friendly and approachable team.

The Practice is highly supportive and the Reception Team in particular have various supervisors and line managers who can offer additional support and guidance.


We pride ourselves on offering a full 6 week induction programme to ensure new joiners feel supported and welcomed into the full surgery team and have a dedicated training manager.

The whole team is extremely versatile and there are opportunities within the different teams for future career development.

We use EMIS Web clinical system.

We currently have a vacancy for one full time receptionist, to work 37 hours per week (working hours to be discussed at interview)

Salary starts at £9.50 per hour, which will increase after a satisfactory probation period to £10.10 per Hour.

About us

Worthing Medical Group is a large, innovative practice in central Worthing caring for over 20,000 patients.

The Practice is based over three sites and we will be moving to a purpose built, state of the art new build site in 2023.

Job Description for a Medical Receptionist

TITLE OF POST:


Medical Receptionist

SALARY:

£10.10 per hour


HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT:

37 hours per week.

Working days & hours to be confirmed at interview - Various shift patterns available and possible day off, Mon - Fri.


APPOINTMENT:

Permanent Contract


RESPONSIBLE TO:

Patient Services Manager


Job Summary:


The Medical Receptionists' duties are to provide a point of contact for the patients and act as a focal point of communication between patients, doctors and other clinical and non-clinical staff, both internal and external in a professional, efficient and courteous manner.

To provide a prompt, effective and polite telephone service.

To take a proactive approach with patient services, adopting a 'can do' attitude and encouraging a 'one stop shop' approach.


Main duties:

Greet patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner

Book, amend and cancel appointments in an appropriate manner as per practice policy and procedures.

Answering the telephone promptly and directing patients to the appropriate service for their needs

Passing on any messages internally

Communicating any delays to patients when appropriate

Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.

Accept repeat prescription requests, file and hand out repeat prescriptions to patient/chemist collection drivers.

Ensuring both the reception and waiting room areas are kept neat and tidy and ensuring they are stocked.

Performing the opening up and closing down checklist protocol

Maintain stationery supplies, patient information sheets and forms at the desk

Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to your post as requested by a Partner/Practice Manager or your Line Manager/s.

After training, to become fully competent in recording information onto the patient database.


Other duties:

To participate in mandatory staff training sessions to ensure development of skills and knowledge.

Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislation requirements and, Practice Policy and Procedures


To observe and comply with all appropriate statutory requirements in relation to Confidentiality, Data protection, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Security.

  • Previous experience of working as a Receptionist / face to face with public
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience of using telephone effectively
  • Able to use Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Confident using computer software programs.
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Good communication and listening skills

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within Healthcare
  • Previous experience of working within a GP surgery/Primary Care
  • Experience of using EMIS Web/other clinical systems

Qualifications

Essential

  • English GCSE or equivalent
  • Good
