Job Introduction:


Sanctions and Screening is responsible for first line of defence in prevention, detection and investigation of relationships with a Sanctioned Individual, individuals convicted of a Financial Crime or a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) and ensures compliance with the Banks policy, risk tolerance and regulatory requirements and forms part of UKXO (Financial Crime Prevention).


The Department are responsible for the receipt and investigation of Payment and Customer screening alerts in relation to Sanctions, PEPs, SOC, SIPs, OOLs, Adverse Media and internally managed lists.

The Department also review country related payment exceptions in line with the Banks risk tolerance as well as alerts relating to the Revised Wire Transfer Regulation, completing all follow on actions and making recommendation to support the on-going risk management of the customer.


Main Responsibility:


  • Work independently to review Sanction, Terrorism, PEP and Enforcement generated customer alerts to identify confirmed matches
  • Complete adverse media screening and identify any Financial Crime Red Flags and escalate as appropriate
  • Reviewing systems, available data and investigative tools to mitigate risks relating to new onboarding screening requirements from other areas of the business
  • Knowledge of investigation and discounting principles and practice in order to provide narrative of escalated cases to investigators
  • Understanding of Sanction, PEP and UK regulatory framework requirements.
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain effective relationships with management and other internal parties to communicate practical solutions to problems or the implementation of improved systems, processes or controls.
  • Work as part of the team to ensure the day to day activities and work flow are adequately prioritised to suit shifting demands
  • Work to tight deadlines and often under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of quality and competency
  • Record and update relevant, accurate and timely MI in the team work trackers where relevant and as needed by the Team Lead
  • Support the Team Lead in developing a high performing team culture through regular communication, coaching and team building
  • Where needed, support the implementation of BAU work streams in conjunction with various Bank wide projects.
  • Operates in line with the Bank's Risk Management framework (including subframeworks) and relevant risk and compliance policies and procedures, ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of any concerns to their line manager.
  • Understanding and/or experience of KYC, Sanctions and business and/or banking processes, especially around account opening routines and payment/transaction processing system and the UK regulatory environment (preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work well under pressure with attention to detail, presenting information in a clear and concise manner
  • A team player with a positive, supportive and engaged approach to change
  • Flexible, adaptable and excellent time management in order to effectively to manage and prioritize workloads within the changing business needs
  • Excellent communication skills and problem solving abilities
  • Be selfmotivated and able to work on individual basis as well as part of a team
