Salary:
£63,000 - £94,400 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As the Head of Regulation for SSE Thermal, you will lead the way in identifying, prioritising, and addressing high-value and high-risk regulatory policy issues.

Your role involves influencing change by representing Thermal's priorities and commercial interests through proactive and reactive engagement with regulators.

You'll be the expert providing regulatory advice, contributing to the strategic direction, and playing a crucial part in maintaining compliance and minimising regulatory risk.

Leading a small team, you'll foster consistently high performance through effective coaching, development, and performance management.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Influencing regulatory change by actively representing Thermal's priorities and commercial interests through consultation responses, industry forums, and proposing changes to regulatory arrangements.
  • Providing expert guidance, interpretation, and regulatory advice, contributing to the strategic direction of Thermal while finding solutions to complex regulatory issues.
  • Engaging with the Executive team and a wide range of internal stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient delivery of regulatory strategy, supporting successful commercial opportunities and provide clear guidance on compliance related matters to understand regulatory risk.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders including Ofgem, the CRU, and UR, represent SSE in meetings with regulators and policymakers, and contribute to consultation responses and proposed changes to regulatory frameworks.
  • Be part of the leadership of the Group & Markets Regulation team, a collaborative team supporting SSE's energy businesses and Group executive.

What do I need?:

To be considered for this role, we'd love you to have:

  • Strategic awareness of the interactions between multiple legislative, regulatory, policy and code requirements and objectives, in addition to as a track record of delivering positive outcomes in regulatory engagement.
  • Depth of knowledge and understanding of the commercial and market drivers affecting a large and complex regulated business. While experience gained within energy regulation is desirable, it is not essential.
  • Superior writing skills, synthesising information from various sources into cohesive and impactful written communication for stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and senior leaders.
  • Skilled in optimising internal and external relationships to raise awareness of issues, obtain information to quantify risk or value, and support strategic priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate seamlessly with crossfunctional teams, as well as interacting confidently and gaining trust at executive level.
