Oxford Nanopore is developing a range of workflow automation products aligned with its mission to enable the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere.

From the miniature VolTRAX 'lab-on-a-chip' device to liquid handling robots capable of processing 100s ofsamples a day we aim to bring the benefits of automation to all our customers.

As an increasingly important part of the company's offering we are expanding our automation development program and seeking a high calibre individual to lead the activity.

The Role...

As the Senior Director, Automation Development you will be responsible for leading the development of the company's laboratory automation products and solutions.

You will work closely with other members of Senior Leadership to define, plan and implement a strategicroadmap in line with the company's vision and agile development approach.

Building from an established base, you will be expected to expand and lead a hard-working multi-disciplinary team and to ensure that the facilities, infrastructure and practises necessaryfor effective delivery are in place.

What We're Looking For...


Able to demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the benefits and challenges of laboratory automation from both a technical and business perspective
  • Evidence of planning and implementing a portfolio of complex multi £MM product and technology development projects
  • Fluency and practical experience in dynamic agile development practices, especially software development for control of scientific instrumentation.
  • An ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation from executive management to individual team members.
  • An agile and flexible approach to decision making and problem solving

Ideally also have:

  • Experience in the genomics sector and preferably of sequencing technologies and associated sample and library preparation techniques and platforms.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of liquid handling automation technologies and platforms from conventional pipetting based systems to micro fluidic chips
  • A history of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with 3rd party suppliers and partners
  • A working knowledge of formal quality standards including ISO9001 and ISO13485
