Description

Attend multidisciplinary meetings to promote a thorough knowledge and understanding of clinical coding and its rules and conventions and raise awareness of the importance of complete, accurate and timely datato all levels of staff within the Trust.

To lead the development, implementation, promotion and maintenance of local policy and guidance agreements that relate to clinical coding issues within the divisions.

Ensure that all local staff adhere to policy agreements and that they are reviewed regularly and stored in a logical fashion.

To assist in the induction, training and mentorship of all staff involved in clinical coding.


To be aware of the reporting requirements of the divisions and provide regular feedback on coding, where it affects these areas, as well as specialist advice on the interpretation of diagnosis and procedures.

To facilitate the data recall process by being the point of contact for providing details of codes used for specific diagnostic conditions and operative procedures for clinicians, service managers and information staff.

To communicate effectively with non-clinical staff, clinicians, nurses, midwives, and managers both internal and external to the trust on coding issues.

Attend multidisciplinary meetings, which require clinical coding input, providing regular feedback on coding issues to divisional management and ward staff.


To participate in regular training to ensure that coding/leadership skills are continually being broadened and updated, by attending specialty workshops and in-house training as outlined in a personal development plan.

Be responsible for maintaining their own portfolio of evidence.

To assist the Trust in maintaining a high data quality standard by raising queries regarding anomalies found in the recording of data held on the PAS with the appropriate staff.

Any unresolved problems should be discussed with the Clinical Coding Manage The post holders work will be carried out within the framework of both Trust and Digital Services policies and procedures.
