About the Role:

This role provides an exciting opportunity to provide HSE leadership and support to the Metals Exploration (MEX) Europe-Africa team.

Reporting to the Manager Health, Safety and Environment for Metals Exploration you will be fundamental in ensuring no harm to people or the environment occurs as a result of MEX activities through supporting regional generative and commercial activities through the provision of technical HSE advice and support of the MEX growth agenda.


You will provide leadership and direction in the delivery of HSE fundamentals and strategic improvement initiatives for MEX Europe Africa and be at the forefront of the developing regional approach and ensuring that HSE systems, processes and resourcing aligns with regional needs.

You will have the opportunity to select and build your team as activities in the region expand.


Based in London, England; regular travel across the Europe - Africa region will be required to enable effective relationships with your team and customers.

You will have the opportunity to build capability and capacity within HSE and MEX through the development, coaching and alignment of the MEX Europe - Africa team, and over time with the MEX Europe-Africa HSE team members to deliver excellence in HSE, thus ensuring safe delivery of exploration activities.

In this role you will:


  • Support development and implementation of the MEX HSE Strategy and plan at a Regional and Country level in collaboration with Operational and Functional partners;
  • Support regional generative and commercial activities, providing technical HSE input into opportunity assessment and ongoing assurance of third party ventures
  • Support regional growth through engagement with pipeline development, identifying key HSE needs to support growth
  • Recruit, develop and lead a strong capable team across the region to deliver effective HSE services to your customers
  • Establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Define and drive effectiveness and standardisation of processes in partnership with your peers across the Metals Exploration;
  • Support the delivery of MEX and Global HSE Strategy and key Asset HSE priorities;
  • Build HSE capability and capacity within the MEX Regional team through coaching, mentoring and the provision of advice on HSE strategy, system and procedures;

About You:


You will be an experienced people leader with experience leading a diverse team in exploration, mining or similar resources industry.

You will have a passion for developing others through coaching, mentoring, rewarding and guiding.


You will have strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated capability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and community groups.

Your well developed and professional technical expertise and network will stem from an influenced practice in the HSE area with experience, and a

supporting tertiary degree in a health, safety, environment or related field.

You will have detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of HSE related risks. Experience in working in the Europe - Africa region, as well as speaking multiple languages (i.e. French, Portuguese, Spanish) would be well regarded.
