Description
We are the Environment Agency.

We work with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to make our environment cleaner, safer and healthier for people and wildlife.

We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face.

  • In this role as a Hydrometry & Telemetry officer you will primarily support our local telemetry team by monitoring the operational status of the network, finding and fixing faults, and deploying new telemetry solutions where required.
  • More specifically you will be required to
  • Ensure the telemetry network in the Area remains operational.
  • Work with the Telemetry Technical Specialist to implement new or upgraded solutions where required.
  • Advance our monitoring ability by upgrading sites when required.
  • Configure, test and deploy telemetry units.
  • Develop effective relationships with partners and team members.
  • Support the local hydrometry team when needed to ensure geographic efficiency, by developing understanding of and capability in hydrometric field work, including calibration of instrumentation.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will also be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond during or during recovery from incidents.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

  • The Hydrometry and Telemetry are a dedicated and friendly team who provide core telemetry, hydrometric and hydrological data to the Environment Agency, in particular information on river level, flow, rainfall, and groundwater levels.
  • The team collects data across the Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area and delivers a vital service that underpins much of the Environment Agency's responsibilities relating to flood and costal risk management and water resource management.
Experience/skills required

  • You will ideally have a background in the configuration, test and repair of electronic/electrical systems, and/or a minimum BTEC level qualification in electrical and electronics engineering, with a keen interest in designing, testing, installing, and maintaining appropriate monitoring equipment.
  • You will possess:
  • Good knowledge of telemetry systems.
  • Experience in managing your own workload.
  • Welldeveloped practical problemsolving skills
  • Willingness to work outside, often in demanding weather conditions, all year round.
  • A full UK driving Licence is essential
  • Good communication skills
