To be responsible for the effective organisation, administration and co-ordination of education, heritage and community related activities.


To ensure that all aspects of activities and programmes fully achieve the agreed objectives and are delivered on time and budget and to the required quality through development of an appropriate evaluation framework.

To ensure, after the funded period, mainstreaming of those programmes and activities evaluated as successful.


To work with key stakeholders in the delivery of these programmes and activities and ensure effective community engagement is secured and maintained.


Main purpose of job

Summary of responsibilities and personal duties

  • In collaboration with the appointed expert and, or consultant research, develop and effectively deliver the agreed City Cemetery Activity and Outreach Programme.
  • To develop, implement and monitor an evaluation framework for the outreach and activity Programme for the City Cemetery Heritage Project.
  • To monitor and manage budgets as allocated for the delivery of outreach activities in line with council policies and the terms of the letter of offer.
  • To collate, monitor and report on usage figures and other relevant indicators for the cemetery's education, heritage and community related activities and develop further programmes accordingly.
  • To build and maintain a collection of supporting materials for public use through print, web and other electronic media. Utilising existing departmental systems and project specific IT solutions to ensure accurate and up to date information is available.
  • To work with appropriate experts, consultants, and others in the design and implementation of interpretive materials, displays and equipment.
  • To be responsible for development and delivery of programmed activities and stand alone events and for associated management plans ensuring compliance with relevant Health and Safety policies and legislation.
  • To act as key holder for the visitor centre opening and closing the facility as and when required and carrying out the relevant Health and Safety procedures to ensure the safety of visitors and staff while they are on the premises.
  • To act in accordance with the council and departmental policies and procedures including customer care, safeguarding and any pertinent legislation.
  • To develop a sound knowledge of the City Cemetery's history and its heritage assets and ensure their educational potential is maximised.
  • To develop good working relationships with appropriate educational organisations to ensure the delivery of an effective education programme.
  • To establish good working relationships with and have knowledge of local community groups in order to connect, offer professional advice and support and encourage maximum engagement with the cemetery and its activity programme.
  • To work with the council's communications staff to develop a range of promotional materials and activities designed to maximise public engagement with the cemetery. To develop, update and maintain the project's digital presence such as website and social media.
  • To identify sources of volunteers required to assist in the delivery of the programmes of activities. To recruit, train and supervise these volunteers to ensure that a quality service is delivered and the objectives of the project are met.
  • To assist in the training, mentoring and coordination of the council staff to create a sustainable educational resource which fulfils the objectives of the project and meets departmental objectives.
