The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Business Intelligence Officer on behalf of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Clinical Research Network North East and North Cumbria (NIHR CRN NENC).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our busy Business Intelligence team.

The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that the study data related to the NIHR Portfolio is up to date and support the Business Intelligence Manager and team to produce reports and resolve queries from internal and external stakeholders.


The NIHR Clinical Research Network is the clinical research delivery arm of the NHS in England, tasked with supporting the rapid set-up and effective conduct of studies so that researchers can gather the robust evidence needed to improve treatments for NHS patients.

The post holder will work as part of the Business Intelligence Team for the LCRN ensuring the timely upload of recruitment and performance data relating to NIHR Portfolio studies, work as part of a helpdesk to record, track and resolve queries, review reports and validate data and provide administrative support to the Business Intelligence Team.

  • Ensure the timely upload of recruitment and performance data relating to NIHR Portfolio studies. This will include supporting and training Recruitment Data Contacts (RDCs) in the process of uploading recruitment data.

  • Review reports distributed by the

North East and North Cumbria to validate data and raise queries

  • Work with the Business Intelligence Systems Manager on the interpretation, presentation and use of information collected
  • Support the Business Intelligence Systems Manager on the production of accurate and timely information and reports for Executive Meetings, Clinical Research Leads, Specialty Leads, Performance Management Meetings and Research Delivery Managers. Disseminate reports to various audiences as required.
  • Produce information on behalf of the Business Intelligence Systems Manager as required
  • Set up processes to support analysis and increase data quality and reporting efficiency
  • Contribute to the overall performance evaluation towards the NIHR Clinical Research Network High Level Objectives
  • Work as part of a helpdesk team. In this capacity the post holder will be responsible for receiving calls, recording and tracking the progress of requests, keeping users informed on the status of their request and making an initial assessment of the request in an attempt to resolve these or escalate to the appropriate person.
  • Provide general admin support to the Business Intelligence Team
  • Undertake activities that meet the organisational business objectives and undertake personal and professional development as discussed with the Business Intelligence Systems Manager during the appraisal cycle
