The Role

As a Data Engineer at Pret, you'll be responsible for designing and implementing efficient, scalable, and reliable data pipelines to power analytics, reporting, and strategic decision-making. You'll work closely with our highly skilled engineering team to build robust data solutions that transform raw data into actionable insights.

You'll follow modern data engineering best practices, including software engineering principles, automation, and cloud technologies, to deliver high-quality solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to influence Pret's data transformation journey and enable the business to innovate and thrive.

Responsibilities

Translate business requirements into scalable and efficient technical solutions.
Design, build, and deploy high-volume data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store data in a common data model for analytics and reporting.
Develop, test, and maintain ETL processes across a variety of data sources and platforms, ensuring reliability and performance.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code for data transformation and orchestration.
Practice disciplined software engineering, including automated testing, peer code reviews, and version control (Git).
Monitor and optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
Work with cloud-based platforms such as Snowflake and Azure to manage and process large datasets.
Promote a culture of collaboration, learning, and knowledge sharing across the team.
Stay up to date with modern data technologies and actively look for opportunities to improve Pret's data capabilities.
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments and enable continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience

We're looking for candidates with:

3+ years' experience as a Data Engineer, working with big data solutions and following software engineering best practices.
Proficient in Python and Java for data engineering and automation tasks.
Strong knowledge of SQL for querying, transforming, and managing datasets.
Experience building and optimising cloud-based data pipelines using platforms such as Snowflake.
Proficient in version control tools, particularly Git, with experience working in a collaborative repository environment.
Experience in writing and deploying automated tests to ensure data quality and pipeline reliability.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, hybrid environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
