We are an ambitious organisation focused on delivering the best services for people in Wolverhampton; working for us gives you the opportunity to make a difference to their lives.

We have a number of exciting opportunities available to be part of our finance team at Finance Officer level within the Strategic Finance service.

Some of the areas of the positions available include both Corporate Finance and Service Accounting teams where applicants with experience of local government in these areas would be advantageous.

We pride ourselves on being a supportive finance function that delivers a high standard of professional financial advice across the organisation by making strong relationships with budget managers and being part of the exciting improvements this city is making.

About You
As a Finance Officer you will be reporting to a Finance Manager.

You will be fully AAT qualified and/or hold a relevant degree, ideally with public sector experience, with the drive, determination and enthusiasm to deliver a high quality service for those you will support in trying to achieve the aims of the city.

You will have substantial relevant post qualification experience of accounting and budgeting, as well as a proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to work accurately to deadlines.

You will be a self-starter, able to use initiative within delegated authority and to work with little supervision and direction.

You will be able to establish and continue good working relationships, work effectively as part of a team and work under pressure when required.

In addition to you having demonstrated experience in the full range of annual financial cycle activities including budget holder meetings for monitoring/forecasting, budget setting and final accounts, other desirable attributes specific to some of the finance officer roles available include experience of capital projects, grant funding and statutory accounts.

In return, you will receive a competitive salary, a generous annual leave entitlement, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, and other employee benefits including a range of retail discounts and salary sacrifice schemes.

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style.

Some roles are agile which enable and empowers employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance.

Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location.

Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocation where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location.

Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
