About the Role

Base Location:
Flexible however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

Salary:
£72,500 - £108,700 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The Head of Finance - Strategy and Regulation, is responsible for the accountabilities listed below at the BU organisation level and is therefore a key point of contact for the MD, FD, and Commercial Director, advising them on the financial/Regulatory impact of key decisions.

This role may also be required to deputise for the FD at appropriate forums.


Reporting directly into the Director of Finance Distribution, the Head of Finance and Regulation is a role focussed on Regulatory Reporting, Price control work, strategic business planning, business analysis and insight and budgeting and forecasting activities.

This role will work closely with the Head of Commercial and Operations supporting the Distribution business with performance improvement initiatives.

External engagement with Ofgem and other Distribution companies, and ongoing external cost benchmarking will be a key responsibility of this role.

This person will lead the wider Distribution Regulatory Finance team, and work collaboratively with senior finance staff and business leaders to best perform our RIIO price control settlements.

Responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to);

  • Working with the Distribution Finance team, comanage the yearly BU budget/forecasts including senior stakeholder sign off, providing financial insight and challenge as necessary to ensure budgets are accurate, realistic, and aligned with the broader BU / SSE strategy and Regulatory Settlement. This is with a view to ensuring the business planning cycle is congruent with the long term aims of ED2 and beyond.
  • Lead a team of Senior Finance managers, analysts, and regulatory specialists through the complex process of price control completion and the annual Regulatory Reporting pack completion to our regulator, Ofgem. This involves working with, and where applicable informally leading staff within the Distribution business who do not have the requisite Regulatory Knowledge, to report activity, costs and outcomes to the best advantage of SSEN.
  • Work with business management teams to identify and implement initiatives and opportunities e.g. how best to represent our cost base from a regulatory perspective, areas of major divergence from other Distribution companies, to allow cost reduction, and asset level performance improvement.
  • Represent SSEN at Regulator meetings such as Cost Assessment Working Groups, Business Plan Data groups, driving the agenda and ensuring SSEN is well represented and well briefed internally.
  • Ensure business alignment on strategic planning activities from a finance perspective, for example by working with the Finance team on 5year modelling, providing financial analysis and challenge in 5year planning sessions with the business.

What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have the following:

  • Fully qualified accountant with significant Post Qualified Experience in a Senior Business Partner / Finance Manager / Management Accountant business-interfacing role with experience of solving business issues of similar scale and complexity as well as being an expert in Utility Regulation accounting and benchmarking.
  • You will ideally have previous experience in influencing strategy and being able to translate this into actionable programmes, opportunities or activities that has resulted in improved profitability or risk mitigation.
  • You should have the ability to effectively communicate financial performance to operational colleagues to embed financial understanding within the business as well as the experience of managing numerous complex projects or processes simultaneously.
  • Previous experience in developing, motivating, and leading a diverse, and potentially multilocational team.
