Job DescriptionAssistant Director, Decision Analytics & Modelling, Health Sector, UK&I, London The opportunity Do you have an analytical mind-set? Within Decision Analytics and Modelling we have established a rapidly growing analytics offering and are currently looking for exceptional individuals with experience in advanced analytics, data science and machine learning technologies to join the team. We work with major corporate and private equity clients, government departments and other public sector bodies, advising them on complex strategic corporate transaction activities (e.g. related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, asset disposals etc.) and commercial, financial and operational decisions. Our projects often involve managing multiple stakeholders and high degrees of complexity and uncertainty. Decision making in this environment requires strong client management and communication skills, in addition to rigorous analytical techniques and excellent data handling skills. Our work typically involves constructing purpose-built databases storing large client datasets for our analytical models, using data transformation tools, visualisation tools, programming and statistical tools (such as R and Python), to derive insight through data modelling and simulations, in a fast-moving transaction environment. Although the team is largely London-based, we operate as a national team and many of our engagements involve multi-national clients. This role will most likely require some travel within the UK and could require overseas working from time to time. Your key responsibilities * Lead assignments - requirements definition, specification, data collection, solution design, development, best practice review, testing, documentation, implementation and training. * Design and build client solutions with complex database models, machine learning solutions, and insightful visualisations to enable analysis of large diverse datasets. * Work directly with clients and lead relationships with clients and other EY specialist teams. * Actively involved in bringing to market, health sector specific analytics offerings. * Take ownership of developing a sales pipeline and take a lead in developing client relations. * Oversee performance of project teams and manage project budgets. * Identify risks on projects, working with an Engagement Partner to mitigate or resolve risks. * Develop junior team members in developing their skills and technical expertise. * Work with other senior members of the team on practice management matters (pipeline review, recruitment, managing team's projects portfolio). * Manage clients' expectations in relation to deliverables. * Lead internal initiatives and projects, as required. Skills and attributes for success * A strong academic background, e.g. Degree or equivalent in a numerate or analytical subject. * Direct relevant experience of working within or providing specialist modelling/analytical support to health informatics/finance teams or developing analysis which underpins strategic healthcare provision. * Strong experience in MS Excel, plus at least one SQL dialect (e.g. SQL Server, Python, R, MS Access, Postgresql, Oracle, PLSQL or MYSQL). * Highly numerate with a strong technical knowledge and experience of applying statistical / analytical modelling techniques to provide insights to business issues. * Previous evidence of working with clients and model users to identify their particular needs, and evidence of problem-solving previous client problems. * Strong oral and written communication skills Ideally, you'll also have * Experience in working with a range of healthcare datasets including HES, SUS. theatre data, RTT Data or other HSCIC datasets. * Experience of analytics packages including Programming in R or Python and visualisation packages including Power BI, Shiny, Tableau, QlikView or Spotfire. * Some experience in coaching more junior staff to maximise performance. * Experience of financial reporting, and an understanding of basic corporate finance and accounting concepts. * Experience of leading a small team to independently deliver assignments. * Experience of working in a professional services environment, including exposure to high profile transactions.
