Senior/Lead EstimatorWorking with a team of commercial, technical, operational, and external partners you will be responsible for the preparation and submission of tenders, under a variety of forms of procurement for projects up to £20m in line with the company's brand, position, and processes.From receipt of initial enquiry documents you will form part of the Group's Bid Team that ensures the right technical and commercial offer is brought together into a winning proposal within often tight deadlines.The candidate should have previous experience in an estimating role within a medium to large business in the construction sector.The candidate should have technical knowledge of construction, be efficient, able to meet deadlines and work well as part of a team with the objective of securing profitable future workload for the business.Utilise construction knowledge and commercial experience in conjunction with other members of the bid team to ensure competitive bids. Risk and Value management during the tender period. Preparation of budgets, cost plans, bills of quantities and value engineering options.Responsibilities * Managing a small team of Estimator, Trainee Estimator plus Admin. * Appraisal of tender documents. * Preparation of material and sub-contract enquiries, including selection of prospective subcontractors. * Attending strategy/opportunity meetings with project team. * Track tender opportunities and manage workload. * Visit site to identify site specific risks. * Contribute to the design development process and attend design team meetings. * Preparing tender Bills of Quantities. * Preparation of analytical cost estimates including preliminaries. * Prepare budgets and cost plans. * Prepare tenders on 1st principles basis. * Prepare benchmarking against other tender submissions / actual project costs in association with Senior QS. * Adjudication and comparison of sub-contractor quotations. * Initiate technical queries and ensure design sufficiently developed to ensure accurate costings. * Risk management throughout the tender period and preparation of the tender Risk Register. * Input into Strategy Programme and Long Lead Items for Procurement Schedule. * Preparation of Contractors Proposals with Business Development and Design Teams. * Value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects. * Presentation of the tender to senior management at tender settlement meetings including the highlighting major commercial issues. * Communicate with the supply chain the outcome of tenders and relevant information to allow them to improve their next bid.Knowledge skills & experience * Appropriate Construction related - HND/Degree or similar (essential). * Competent use of Microsoft packages e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook (essential). * Extensive experience of analytical building estimating in all sectors but to include industrial, commercial, education and health, on projects ranging from £100k to £20 million (essential). * All forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build 2 stage tenders and frameworks (essential). * Well-developed Technical Construction Knowledge (essential). * Knowledge of Building Regulations and other industry standards (essential). * Develop personal skills and capability through on-going training, experience, and mentoring
