In return you will work with a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, receive superb training and development opportunities and excellent staff benefits.We are seeking to recruit a consultant in general adult psychiatry to join our developing team on the Hadrian Unit (6 PA – split 41⁄2 PA to 11⁄2 SPA) at the Carleton Clinic on the outskirts of Carlisle as well as provide support to the Carlisle based Access Liaison Integrated Service, ALIS (4 PA – split 3 PA to 1 SPA) on the same site.The Hadrian Unit is one of five mental health wards based at the Carleton Clinic and provides acute psychiatric care for up to 22 patients with functional mental illnesses. The staffing model is being developed and you will work alongside two other consultant psychiatrists and therefore be responsible for the care of approximately a third of the patients. There is a nurse consultant and a clinical psychologist on the ward also training to become approved clinicians, with the plan that the Hadrian Unit will become a multi-professional AC service to meet the varying needs of its patients.The Consultant post in the ALIS team is an opportunity to provide clinical leadership in a fast-moving urgent care service that seeks to provide community-based support for patients going through a mental health crisis. The service is open access and accepts referrals for assessment from a wide range of agencies, including primary care, the Police, Social Services and other parts of the secondary care mental health service. It operates a ‘72 hour’ pathway in which each patient is assessed and then allocated to home treatment or to another ‘safe discharge’ pathway. The staff are skilled in assessing patients and providing brief interventions.There is a well-established, supportive and collaborative culture amongst senior clinicians and medical staff in north Cumbria. You will be welcomed into a peer group that routinely meets for peer support and CPD activities. We have an active weekly teaching program and all senior clinician are encouraged and supported to explore other roles, whether that be in education, becoming involved in medical management, research, medical appraisal or other opportunities, depending upon the wishes and career aspirations of the applicant.Why us?
