Broad Purpose of Job:

  • By providing high quality medical and scientific input, to actively contribute to the development of the product lifecycle. This will involve working in partnership with the wider medical team, with colleagues within the brand teams, with the training department, and with our global scientific affairs functions, to ensure the strategic aims of the Company are met
  • To ensure medical and scientific credibility and high corporate ethical standards within the Company
  • The Medical Advisor will have sufficient experience to be able to independently (or with little supervision) work within the brand teams to achieve business objectives and to deliver high-quality medical projects.

Specific Responsibilities

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

Contribution to Brand(s)

  • Lead on providing strategic medical input into the brand planning process to ensure medical and scientific credibility and the optimal use of data for competitive product differentiation. This includes review and critique of emerging data for our products, analysis of the therapy area and competitor environment, and communication of findings/recommendations to relevant parties
  • Providing advice and support on interpretation of the ABPI Code of Practice and other relevant legislation to ensure ethical and compliant promotion of products and activities. This includes, but is not limited to, working with the wider brand team to ensure compliance of promotional and non-promotional materials and activities with the ABPI Code of Practice
  • Contribute to NICE and SMC submission documents and market access initiatives where appropriate in collaboration with market access colleagues
  • Work closely with Mundipharma Research Limited and the Global Medical and Commercial functions to ensure a full scientific and commercial understanding of the Company’s products and any ongoing trial work, and to provide appropriate input to develop the brands to their full potential
  • Attend relevant national and international scientific meetings/congresses in order to ensure up-to-date knowledge of therapy areas, and to provide internal and external stakeholders with therapy area and product knowledge as required

Key Opinion Leader Interactions

  • Work with colleagues in the brand teams to build a strong opinion leader and clinical investigator base for relevant products with the capability of providing expert medical advice and support to clinical trials programmes
  • Present tailored clinical data packages to advisory boards, investigators and other key opinion leaders to deliver scientifically credible messages regarding Napp’s existing and pipeline products, where appropriate

Support to Commercial Teams

  • Oversee the design and delivery of approved training packages to UK salesforce on medical aspects of relevant therapeutic areas, clinical data and the Code of Practice at sales training meeting, sales conferences etc, mentoring other colleagues as required
  • Support the brand teams where appropriate and in conjunction with colleagues in Medical, in developing external customer knowledge and understanding of Napp’s products and relevant therapy areas as required

Clinical Research Support

  • Lead on or contribute to appropriate medical and scientific input to support the global clinical trial development programme for all products during their lifecycle.
  • Work with Mundipharma Research Limited in the development of Phase IIIb and IV clinical trial development for local (Napp-sponsored) studies.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Medical to review proposals for Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs) and oversee the company contribution to the trial, ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines.

Business Acumen

  • Contribute to the continuous development and implementation of medical processes and working practices in line with business needs
  • Work with the Compliance function to support the development of effective processes to ensure compliance with the ABPI Code of Practice and other relevant legislation which meet the needs of the business
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice and other relevant legislation in order to provide advice and support to the wider business

Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant life science, pharmacy or medicine
  • A proven track record of achievement within the UK medical affairs department in a pharmaceutical company, including experience in medical affairs activities such as advisory boards, symposia, publications planning, educational materials development and strategic planning
  • A higher science degree e.g. PhD, MSc is desirable
  • A Final Signatory (pharmacist) or significant experience of the PMCPA Code of Practice is desirable
  • A sound understanding of financial principles and budget planning/control is desirable
  • Ability to communicate effectively across the key functions
  • Ability to work effectively and in harmony in a team
  • Solutions-driven and able to manage and work with agencies to deliver high quality projects
  • Ability to provide and apply scientific rationale to decision making
