The role of Technical Leader – Solutions is vital in realising our mission and holds specific responsibility for ensuring that we select the most appropriate technical solutions to meet our customer's needs and deliver the transformation. It is a requirement of this role to work closely with the clients and markets team, operational teams, our clients and supply chain partners – especially designers - to ensure we unlock our operating model to the benefit our clients, end users and our business. It is especially important that this position role models exemplary behaviours demonstrating absolute alignment with our strategic business direction and expectations including compliance with company systems and assurance.Working Patterns: The role requires travel and overnight stays. The frequency will be determined by workload and requirements. It is essential that capacity is maintained. Key Deliverables and Accountabilities With the Technical Director, create technical teams who understand client briefs, can articulate – using data - the relative benefits of different solutions to inform decision making and option selection.Identify and select the most appropriate staff and/or team (including external partners) to assist in the development and delivery of the design to meet the project demands (quality, programme and cost).Ensure all elements of technical delivery are digitally enabled and co-ordinated.Create and nurture a creative technical environment that supports the enduring conditions of transformation leading to innovative designs which deliver technical integrity and integration.Responsible for critical review and appraisal of reference designs and specifications identifying, where appropriate, alternative proposals that mitigate technical risk, improve sustainable outcomes, eradicate ambiguity, enhance construction methods, maximise DfMA and cross selling of our capabilities.Collaborate with internal and external design teams to embed safety and sustainability by design and provide upfront certainty that design and construction methodology concepts correspond with design and construction information – complete and ready to be deployed in a safe and productive manner.Collaborate across disciplines to ensure the resultant bid, project (or product) provides certainty and corresponds with our client's technical requirements.Responsible for ensuring technical settlements are delivered, which appraise amongst other items: the solution, team, programme and associated costs, risk mitigation and approach to leverage opportunities.With the Systems Engineering and Assurance Technical Leader embed a strong customer focused compliance culture in our people and our design and delivery partners.Working with the Technical Leadership team contribute to the strategic mapping and planning for future staff attributes and where required advise on staff deployment and training requirements.Maintain personal continuing professional development and associated professional membership.Represent Laing O'Rourke both internally and externally as an ambassador / role model. Technical Capabilities / Keys Skills / Qualifications / Experience and Personal Attributes Minimum of 15 years' relevant experience in technical or operational roles with an understanding of the end to end construction process.Chartered Engineer/Professional preferred.Highly skilled and able to demonstrate an ability to prioritise and deliver in a complex and fast paced environment.Knowledge of all business streams and the benefits of our integrated operating model. Personal attributes: Extensive technical knowledge and creative attributes both in design and construction methodology; strong business acumen and people leadership qualities; rigorous; pragmatic, empathetic, customer and service oriented; possess clear and effective communication skills; ability to take a stand, make and receive feedback; provide solutions; results oriented; curious and open to change and an accountable decision maker.Key performance indicators:Safety, security and wellness performance; reduce preventable incidents through measurable safety by design approaches.Elimination of waste; design rework, availability of complete and integrated design, change in design.Digital and data; demonstrate an increase in the use of company systems and digital systems. Record user experience. Reduced carbon / water / waste and energy use of assets during construction and operation – linked to BREEAM and/or CEEQUAL.Optimised solutions to reliably deliver 70:60:30Improving client and design partner feedback scores.Staff engagement survey – improvement across the technical function.Final requirements to be agreed with the specific Technical Director.
