Summary of role The appointed Costs Lawyer will have significant experience of all aspects of both inter parties costs and solicitor/client costs work in the field of clinical negligence and personal injury claims, with experience of different forms of funding including Conditional Fee Agreements with After the Event Insurance; Legal Aid and Before the Event Insurance. The successful candidate will work well in a team environment, and will ideally demonstrate an ability to innovate and streamline processes and monitor outcomes and performance as well as advise and guide a fee earning team on costs issues. The appointed Costs Lawyer will demonstrate a genuinely commercial approach, focussed on obtaining the best possible result for the team / business. They must also be confident to deal with external providers and ensure a suitable level of service is provided. Essential and desirable criteria Ability to work collaboratively with the Costs Manager and other costs lawyers and the fee earning teams they support Ability to set / agree and achieve targets and work under pressure Ability to prioritise workload and competing demands across a big team to maximise speed of cashflow Ability to provide thorough and reasoned advice on all aspects of costs High quality of drafting Ability to provide detailed analysis Structured approach to work with an ability to have and adhere to a fixed timetable in all costs cases and take steps as needed to comply with the same Excellent communication skills Excellent technical and legal knowledge on costs Law Excellent costs negotiation skills Excellent IT skills Professional approach to external providers and third parties Ability to identify where steps need to be taken to speed up the costs process within the team Focus on keeping up to date with recent developments Ability to provide ongoing training and education of fee earners at all levels to improve performance in terms of costs recovery Please note - flexible office location - there is the option to be based in any of our UK offices
