Are you an experienced Financial Controller or Financial Accounting Manager looking for your next challenge?We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join Sovereign as Group Financial Controller. You'll be responsible for leading our Financial Accounting and Control processes, acting as custodian of Financial Regulations and accounting policies for the business.As a leading Housing Association, Sovereign are committed to providing quality, affordable homes and services within sustainable, successful communities. We're led by our values and driven by a strong social purpose, placing our residents at the heart of everything we do.What you'll be doing:This is a key role within the business where you'll bring your technical accounting knowledge and expertise to the forefront as well as building effective relationships across the business, providing comprehensive financial information and advice. You'll encourage innovation to deliver better ways of working and proactively drive for efficiencies across the wider organisation.Responsibilities in this hands on role will include: Leading all statutory and management reporting and analysis, including statutory accounts, tax returns, VAT, ONS returns and any Housing Regulator returnsProducing Balance Sheets, Cashflow and I&E commentary for statutory and management reporting, making recommendations for improvementsBeing accountable for the close of all ledgers during month end, ensuring the business is compliant with appropriate accounting standards / SORPEnsuring the general ledger Chart of Accounts (CoA) is fit for purpose and can be used to drive efficiencies throughout the businessResponsibility for the financial controls and accounting for all Fixed Assets, including impairment reviews (where appropriate)Leading, inspiring and developing a team of accountants providing direction and coaching to support their personal development What we need from you:You'll need demonstrable experience in a similar role at a senior level, ideally with experience in Housing, though this isn't essential. You'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent Post Graduate accounting qualification, with significant post qualification experienceExpert understanding of relevant legislation and accounting principles, such as FRS102 and SORPStrong understanding of relevant Tax and Pension legislation is essentialExcellent working knowledge of external and internal reporting cycles, including Year End statutory report preparation, management account preparation and analysisExperience of leading change and Transformation activities to deliver better ways of working and improving efficienciesYou'll be highly numerate with strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and ExcelKnowledge and experience in using Agresso/Unit 4 accounting system or similar is preferred We're all working from home at the moment, however when we do start safely returning to offices this role will be based in Basingstoke with some continued flexibility for home working.It's a fantastic time to join us at Sovereign.
